Aadhaar has become a vital element for Indian residents. The Unique Identification Authority of India(UIDAI) has successfully introduced Aadhaar over the last couple of years in our country. The Government and UIDAI have constantly expressed the benefits of using Aadhaar by suggesting that it be linked to different institutions for financial transactions, identification or even tax calculation.

The Government of India has made it mandatory for banks to link Aadhaar of their customers with their bank accounts. Hence, the previous deadline for the process of linking Aadhaar to bank accounts has been extended to March 31, 2018, from December 31, 2017, as released during a recent press conference.

The government initiated the process of linking Aadhaar to bank accounts since June 2017 - still many have not linked the 12-digit Aadhaar number to their accounts. The next time you visit the bank for a transaction, the officials are likely to insist that you update your Aadhaar against your account. They would ask for the Enrolment ID even if you haven't received your Aadhaar yet.

There also seems to be a bit of a confusion among the people who have already linked their Aadhaar with a bank account, if it has been processed correctly by the bank or the bank officials misplaced the details while linking Aadhaar. To avoid such confusion, UIDAI has come up with a solution through their official website. One can now 'Check Aadhaar and Bank Account Linking Status' before visiting the bank.

Here is a step-by-step guide to checking whether Aadhaar has been linked to your bank account or not:

  • Open Aadhaar official website by entering - www.uidai.gov.in

  • On the Homepage, below the Aadhaar services section, you can click the link saying "Check Aadhaar & Bank Account Linking Status".

  • Now, Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar Number or UID, thereafter enter the security code and hit the 'Send OTP' button.

  • OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered in the Aadhaar database. Enter the OTP  and click on 'Login'.

  • On successful login, the website displays 'Congratulations! Your Bank Aadhaar Mapping has been done.'. The Aadhaar is hereby linked to the bank account.

Alternatively, you can also check Aadhaar and Bank Linking Status through Mobile.

  • Dial *99*99*1#

  • Now, submit your 12-digit Aadhaar number

  • Confirm whether the entered digits are correct or not

  • After confirmation, it will show you if the bank account has been linked to Aadhaar or not

If the Aadhaar mapping is not successful, then, visit your bank to link Aadhaar before March 31, 2018.
