Technology never stops evolving. It has triggered a world-over evolution, influencing the creation of remarkable applications. Certain new and emerging technologies holds the promise of high impact solutions.

Experts have revealed from recent studies that we are moving closer to the fourth industrial revolution in which intelligence would fuse together different technologies and give birth to ‘cyber physical systems’. Technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning (ML), Blockchain, IOT etc are laying down foundations to leverage the fourth industrial revolution in bringing better connectivity to the world. It is likely that innovations in the fourth industrial revolution will offer innumerable solutions for various sustainable development goals.

Understanding the importance of technology has become inevitable while identifying solutions for social causes. Here are some free e-learning platforms to learn about new and emerging technologies:

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Google - Machine Learning

This course from Google is offered through Udacity and is slightly more in-depth as opposed to contemporaries. As such this course is not intended for complete novices and offers training with the assumption that some previous experience of machine learning is present in the learner, to the point where they are at least familiar with supervised learning methods. Some benefits of this course are:

  • It places focus on deep learning, and the design of self-teaching systems helps the user learn from large, complex datasets.

  • The course is aimed at those looking to put machine learning, neural network technology to work as data analysts, data scientists or machine learning engineers as well as enterprising individuals wanting to make use of the plethora of open source libraries and materials available.

Learn with Google AI

This newly launched resource is part of Google’s plan to broaden the understanding of AI among the general public. The course material is slowly being added but it already contains a Machine Learning with TensorFlow (Google’s machine learning library) crash course.

Machine Learning course (ML) on Coursera and edX

Popular e-learning platforms Coursera and edX offers courses from world-class universities for free. These platforms contain an abundance of self-paced ML and AI courses taught by experts. The course Machine Learning by Andrew Nig from Coursera is the most popular and enrolled program by students worldwide. These platforms also offer features that are paid for, like course tracking, discussion forums, and certification upon course completion.
