Nonprofits are steadily realising the benefits of migrating from offline to online. Technology and internet is being used by nonprofits for different activities like communication, payments, data management, audience engagement, etc. To create and enable these solutions, nonprofit organizations need access to strong repositories, which are a collection of source codes, for its IT development. Github can be an answer to such organisations as it can be used to create and store repositories for any organization's IT solutions.

Github is a popular hub to house code in groups called repositories. These repositories can be created and updated by more than one permitted user. It stores version-controlled copies of files for effective management of the project.

Microsoft, a popular tech giant, had recently acquired Github. This platform is now very well-known among developers and IT companies.

GitHub for good

GitHub for Good is one of the programs initiated by the platform to help nonprofits. It aids nonprofits’ IT teams to manage and store repositories and files of their solutions. This can be utilized free of cost, once the steps to gain its free account are completed.

How to get started with Github for good?

  • First and foremost, organizations need to create a new personal account on Github.  To do this go to ‘Join Github’.
